The International Radio Festival (IRF) is "the world's first and only industry conference and public on-air event", says Festival director Darryl von Däniken. It should be noted that this festival, which first took place in 2010, has become a unique feature of the radio industry in the intervening 6 years.
A festival that’s attracting great interest
Hardly surprising. With 100 million listeners every year, thanks to the live shows by the stations invited to come and broadcast their programmes, these cities see it as a simple way of attracting tourists and listeners already loyal to their favourite stations. Planned around these live broadcasts, sold-out invitation-only conferences for radio professionals are held. The biggest radio show hosts rub shoulders with DJs from university radios and web radios, because what matters to the organizers is the content. To be selected it’s not enough just to want it.
To be selected you have to be creative: “Creativity represents risk and that is where radio needs to be investing. Like TV 35 years ago, radio finds itself amid the ongoing digitalization of the airwaves (multiplex) and is experiencing a similar quantum leap in additional available channels, requiring innovative content and exceptional personalities to attract new audiences”, Darryl von Däniken explains.

A partnership is born
The Radio Show and its European edition, due to take place at the Grande Halle de la Villette, in Paris, from 29 to 31 January 2017, have therefore just formalized their partnership with the International Radio Festival. A conference on the topic “Content is King” will take place at the Radio Show 2017, at which the International Radio Festival will have its rightful place. There you’ll be able to discover all of the wonders of this unique festival, and meet Darryl von Däniken (See photo).
